Effective delivery systems for plant actives

ICL is seeking effective delivery systems for plant actives 


ICL Innovation, a technology incubator for ICL, is seeking innovative and effective delivery systems for plant actives. The actives need to end up in the target organelles inside the plant cells. Actives could include nutrients such as micro-elements, phosphate derivatives and the like, and micro-organisms. They could function as biostimulants, signaling molecules or other payloads. Application can either be by foliar spray, or by fertigation, and should be done in-season. 


ICL Specialty Fertilizers has developed specialized fertilizer products that match most application technique in growers' use: foliar, drip or soil applied. From exclusive controlled release technology to high-quality fertigation feeding and fast and effective foliar feeding, ICL has a nutritional solution that fits every production system. We are also introducing a range of biostimulants and advanced fertilizers that are accurately tailored to the plants' needs, with almost no waste. These require delivery systems that can transport the active from the application area, into the plant, and then direct it to the organelle it is aimed for. As an example, a micronutrient needs to overcome the barriers posed by the cuticle, translocation against the xylem flow direction, penetration through the cell wall, and then through the cell membrane. All of these require advanced delivery systems. A major factor in our decision whether to select a specific delivery system is cost. The Ag market is highly cost sensitive.
