Molten salt heat transfer fluid

ICL Innovation seeks molten salt heat transfer fluids, or mixtures thereof, comprising primarily of the following ions: K+. Mg++, Na+, Ca++, PO4(-3), Br(-1) and Cl(-1).

Key Success Criteria:

• Usage of the noted ions
• Solidification at or below 200°C
• Stability up to 1000°C
• Stability of salt mix in the system must exceed 10 years
• Specific heat capacity of Cp>1.3 KJ/Kg°C
• Must be compatible with construction materials costing no more than 100 $/Kg
• Superior performance relative to available K-NaNO₃ mixture
• Economic viability

Background:

ICL produces a range of salts from both the Dead Sea and quarries around the world. Molten salt mixtures which offer enhanced properties, and are based on these materials would strengthen ICL's position in the green energy market and serve to solve the critical issue of heat transfer in this market.
