Phosphates extraction from waste streams

ICL Innovation seeks to expand phosphate sources by extracting it from waste streams. Technologies to achieve this goal are sought.

Background

Phosphate rich waste streams present two opportunities: the first is environmental and the second is the usage of this Phosphate in fertilizers. We seek to achieve both, by removing Phosphates from relevant waste streams and using it in fertilizers. Such streams could include phosphatization residues, streams rich in detergents or builders, process waste, and general high-phosphate content streams. The form of the retrieved material is important, as non soluble minerals, such as Struvite, are difficult to use in the fertilizers market. As quantities are small to start with, efficiency of extraction should be maximal, with minimum process cost.

Our criteria

  1. Extraction efficiency
  2. Economic viability
  3. Robustness in field conditions

Information on ICL's fertilizers can be found in the ICL Fertilizers web page.

As a technology incubator, ICL Innovation is looking only for innovative technologies that may be further developed and commercialized through a business unit in ICL.
